All nursing staff are registered nurses experienced in providing medical advice.

Is the service private & confidential?

DHS apply the most stringent standards regarding medical advice, data protection and medical confidentiality in accordance with Australian Privacy Laws and the Health Records Act. Any medical conversation between employee and nurse is covered by these laws.

Can managers view an employee's medical history from our reports?

No, all medical history and records are private and confidential.

Do the nurses diagnose?

Our nurses provide primary health care advice based on the symptoms explained by the employee however they can not diagnose symptoms. The nurse will advise the employee what steps they should take using clinical guidelines. In some cases this will involve a referral to a GP, or even to hospital for immediate treatment.

As a manager, what reporting can I expect to receive?

Approved managers will be provided access to online absence reporting information. This reporting provides division, team and individual benchmark information.

Does the system replace the role of the manager?

The manager has a vital role to play in managing absence day to day and to do this our system will provide the right reporting and support to employees who are unable to return to work. The primary role of the nurse is to provide professional medical advice and support to employees, and ensure employees are referred to medical specialists for persistent or long term absence.

Does everybody have to call if they are going to be absent from work?

When the service is launched employees are advised to call DHS to report any absences. A communication launch to staff confirms the new process.
